I believe a happy moderate solution can be found. I think it does not help to call it Arabic numerals since there is a significant Indian contribution in the development of the current numerals. In several text books they are called Hindu/Indo-Arabic numerals. Having said that, in the Tamil context with the exception of few niche uses the Tamil numerals are no longer used. There is no debate in the Tamil Wikipedia community regarding the numerals. However, we are beginning to use Tamil numerals in special contexts.
